Jacob Sheep Wool
The Versatile Jacob’s Fleece
Jacob sheep are renown for the sheer number of choices their wool offers fiber artists.
A diverse selection of textures, fineness and colors allow for many creative options from one hardy, beautiful breed, making each skein or garment as unique as the individuals who created it.
Whether spinning, weaving or felting, the uniqueness of each fleece lends itself to your art.
Unlike most medium wool breeds, overall fleece quality has been a primary breeding selection factor for the Jacobs Sheep. This has produced fleeces that are competitive in the show ring and sought after by fiber artists.
Jacobs wool is renown for it’s semi-lustrous, low-lanolin qualities and is described as having a soft yet springy texture, creating a crisp, highly tactile sensation while working with it. Fleeces with a more open, ringlet quality are prized by hand spinners – wool that is more tightly crimped and diffuse is ideal for felting.
Regardless of what where your inspiration may take you, the Jacob flock will keep you well stocked with quality fiber.
